The functional masticatory angle is a record taken by performing lateral movements, when a contact between upper and lower canine teeth vertices on the same side is produced; the angle that is formed through these movements is measured to determine a correct chewing and the minimum vertical dimension of occlusion. Objective: to compare changes in the functional masticatory angle after six months of treatment with functional orthopaedic appliances in children treated in the periods II-2018 and I-2019 at the orthopaedics clinic of the University “Cooperativa de Colombia”, Bogotá headquarters. Materials and methods: longitudinal descriptive study of the masticatory functional angle in intraoral photographs of patients; changes T0 to T1 are measured in degrees, six months after the begining of the treatment; Chi-square test and t-Student was applied to identify the percentage distribution differences of the condition of the masticatory functional angle between boys and girls. The t-Student test was also implemented to compare the averages of the differences in the masticatory functional angle between boys and girls. Results: Nineteen subjects were evaluated, twelve girls and seven boys, average age 8 years (standard deviation ± 2.1), the distribution of orthopaedics instruments showed a higher percentage for Klammt Class I Open Activator with 47.3% and lower proportion Network System SN3 and Tracks Indirect flat 5.2% respectively. No significant statistical differences were found in the masticatory functional angle between boys and girls (p> 0.05), for the difference of the right and left sides the girls showed balance (13.3%) and boys (25%). Conclusions: No significant statistical differences between boys and girls were identified neither in the initial and final time, nor in each sex and the total population due to treatment effect (p> 0.05).
