Resumen
In response to the absence of a delimited study of the causes of suicide in the LGBT population in Colombia, a literary review was carried out on the main risk factors that lead a person to present suicidal ideations or behaviors, alluding to the minority stress model as main reason, condensing in it other factors that can develop in the subject belonging to a minority population, where he is easily a victim of discrimination, rejection, stigma and violence by important actors of society such as the family itself. Likewise, the risk factors that the subject has internalized throughout his life development are presented, fostering in himself a self-rejection that leads him to suffer feelings of self-contempt for his diverse sexual orientation, going through psychological discomforts such as stress to serious emotional disorders such as depression, anxiety, and suicidal planning. Finally, the effectiveness of existing public policies in preventing cases in this population, the role of the family and the causes associated with the same individual are questioned.
