Suicide is considered a universal and eternal phenomenon, with different cultural and socio- political concepts, and is defined as "behavior with fatal results, deliberately initiated and implemented by the subject. All of the above begins with suicidal ideation, which is fragile, due to This can trigger suicide attempts and lead to fatal thoughts, which is why, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), suicide is one of the most important factors in the morbidity of young people and is the second cause of death. Therefore, the present study aims to determine the relationship between family functionality and suicidal ideation in young university students from the psychology program. It is a type of research with a cross- correlational approach, with a non-probabilistic sampling for convenience, from the fulfillment of the eligibility criteria, the participation of 47 university students the psychology program of a university in Neiva. Finally, it is concluded with the results obtained through research that the structure and the family environment influence the emotional state of young people, transcending when presenting anxiety, depression, low mood, suicidal behaviors that are determined as risk factors.
