Introduction: The treatment of severe chronic periodontitis, due to the extent of tissue damage and periodontal treatment needs, is high cost and little predictability as to the permanence of the teeth, in the medium term (up to five years ), which affects the quality of life of patients psychological, functional and socio- economically, the use of techniques for stem cells has been little studied. Materials and Methods: We searched on the Internet through two databases: Medline PubMed search was limited to literature published since 1980, the search yielded 152 articles in English. For Spanish-language literature search using th terms "stems cells and periodontology" and gave a list of 70 items of which 45 were in English, after applying the critical analysis caspe guides the material fell 15 items. Conclusion: The reconstruction of a healthy periodontium destroyed by periodontal disease, is a primary goal in periodontal therapy, could be postulated that stem cells extracted from autologous hematopoietic tissue, help repair tissues lost to chronic periodontitis.es
