At the development of postgraduate program called Design and Construction of Pavements, it has been seen the daily need to create road infraestructure projects according to each sector conditions. That´s why the decision to make an efficient road project was made taken to benefit the people who live in Piedras town in Tolima Department. , more specifically in the site of Doima. This place has a big broken road network because of the bad maintenance, also for the elements and materials apliedd in the building process because they are not the appropiate way to bring the perfect conditions of transitability and safety for drivers and people who live there. There are some scientific researches that look for viable economic options to a sustainable development that promotes the optimus growth of the country. That´s why the design of the part of the road object of this study presents an evaluation includding some design ways to compare from racional and empirical judgements giving sustentable choices for the road design. As a highlight there was necessary the preliminar studies, like vehicular capacity, topography, soil study, mathematical calculations, etc. Also applying the method of empirical - mechanistic design AASHTO and the rational method supported by CEDEM software to get the appropiate results for the specific part of lane to design. The main purpose is to show the direct comparison over the choosen design methods from the learned academics concepts, looking for the best option to solve the need found in ground. So as a result to the appliance of the respective design methods showed that the proposed alternatives are similar technical solutions in results, but the individual process of each one of those technical solutions will establish the succes level over the project development.
