Seizure of red viscera represents one of the main problems in the through and commercialization of meat products, causing economic losses until USD 20,000 by slaughterhouse. Frigorífico Río Frío, is the most important slaughterhouse in Santander Colombia, where Seizure of red viscera is little know. The aim of this study was to determine the main causes and epidemiological variables associated with the confiscation of red viscera in a slaughterhouse from Floridablanca, Santander (Frigorifico Río Frío). Between november to december 2018, an epidemiological survey related to transport time, waiting time in corral, breed, sex, age, geographical origin, temperature, macroscopic lesions, body condition score, organ confiscated, pathology and severity lesion, was performed in animals that showed at least one seizure of red viscera. A total of 8671 cattle and 226 buffaloes were slaughtered, in which a total of 1433 (16,1%) seizures were conducted. These results revealed that the most confiscated organ was the lung (87,4%) followed by the liver (11,1%) in both species. Main pathologies associated to the seizures were the bronchoaspiration (77,03%) and liver abscesses (40,5%). All diagnoses were based on the macroscopic alterations observed in the organs. Regarding economic losses, the organs that represented the largest monthly economic losses were the lungs ($ 12 453 925), followed by the liver ($ 8 594 071) and complete viscera ($ 461 893), respectively. Finally, the total of monthly economic loss caused by confiscation of red viscera in the slaughterhouse Cold River was $ 21 716 536. In conclusion, bronchoaspiration was the main cause of confiscation of network visecera in both species, whereas economic losses per animal was $ 15 154, wich represented between 0,8 to 8% of commertial price of each animal.
