Resumen
The present research seeks to establish the relationship between the forms of motivation (internal - external) and (achievement, power, affiliation and cognitive), with the beliefs of academic self - efficacy and the career plan, which is focused in this case, towards psychology as a profession This was done under the parameters of the complexity principles and a mixed research design was used, for which quantitative instruments (survey) and qualitative instruments were applied (semi-structured interview). The participating population were psychology students from the Cooperativa de Colombia University, selected through quota samples. Among the most outstanding results, it was found that the reasons that predominated in the students of the psychology program at the time of choosing it as a career plan are in order of importance: the motivation of knowledge, achievement, affiliation and power. Likewise, it is observed that internal motives predominate over external ones. Regarding the feelings of self-efficacy, it is evident that half of the population shows security in the skills and abilities they have to satisfactorily meet the academic objectives, standing out among these social skills. Also, it was found that almost half of the students showed security in the choice of psychology as a profession, while on the contrary, the remaining part chose it as a second or third option.
