Resumen
Objectives: describe angular cephalometric measurements and determine their influence on the craniofacial characteristics of a mestizo subpopulation Methods: 108 cephalic radiographs of mestizo individuals were evaluated taking 20 angular cephalometric measurements. The ancestral components (Amerindian, European and African) were obtained based on 20 ancestry information markers. Multivariate analysis was carried out to evaluate the simultaneous effect and the interaction between the angular measurements that explain the cephalometric characteristics of each ancestral component Results: Statistically significant differences were found in some angular measures compared between individuals of the same sex with respect to the reference sample. The angular cephalometric variables that best explained the ancestral components were: for European the decrease of SNAr angles, SNA, ANB and the increase of SNB, for African the increase of SNAr, SNA and the decrease of SNB and for Amerindian the decrease of SNB and Go.Gn/SN angles Conclusions: This study showed that some angular cephalometrics measures are related to ancestral composition and so may be relevant in the ethnic characterization in a mestizo individual.
