Resumen
Authoritarian parental style and psychosocial effects in children Abstract. This literature aims to identify in a general way the psychosocial effects of implementing an authoritarian parenting style in coexistence with children. When talking about parenting styles, reference is made to the practices that parents use to control their children's behavior and inculcate norms and values, in order to guide and educate them for their development in society. Within the styles of parenting styles are identified democratic, permissive, negligent and authoritarian, I feel the latter a style in which only benefit parents, since they are those who exercise the authority of power in the home and do not allow opinions or views of your children. Likewise, it is the one that has the greatest repercussions for psychological, emotional and behavioral development in the child's life cycle. In conclusion, from the theoretical review of parental parenting styles, it is found that the use of authoritarian parental style, brings adverse psychosocial effects, such as: lack of personal autonomy and creativity, less social competence, impulsivity and hyperactivity, low self-esteem, discontented children, reserved, little tenacious, little communicative or affectionate and with a tendency to have a poor internalization of values. Therefore, the need to raise awareness among families about the importance of the implementation of an appropriate parenting style is highlighted, bearing in mind that their educational practices may affect the functional development of minors.
