This work exposes some concepts of tourism, the importance and behavior of tourism in the city of Santa Marta as an axis of foreign trade in services and how it influences the socioeconomic sector. The aim is also to make known the different attractions of the city of Santa Marta and its surroundings that make it possible to be recognized as the most touristic city of the Colombian Caribbean and determine the conditions of its potential, based on an integral analysis of the different dimensions of the sustainability of tourism activity. The information obtained is intended to provide reference elements that contribute to the improvement of the planning and management processes of local tourism development, and that serve as a support in the decision-making process for the tourism sector planners at the national and district levels and especially for the Samaria community.
