Resumen
The medical emergency is directed towards the individual, the social environment, the need for care, the state and evolution of this process, the level of severity, critical or death, being decisive in the treatment aimed at solving the problem or limiting the damage. According to the American Dental Association (ADA), urgency is any setting that is potentially life-threatening and needs immediate treatment to relieve severe pain or risk of infection. Among the most common emergencies we find pulpitis, dento-alveolar trauma, pericoronitis, ontogenetic infections, abscesses and post-surgical pain. Where this association covers a series of orthodontic or piercing treatment that are ulcerating the mucous membranes. In this observational study, 411 cases of dental emergencies consulted at the Dental Clinic of the Cooperative University of Colombia were measured. It was observed that the most common reason for consultation is “a tooth hurts” and the most affected tissues were of dental origin and pulp.
