Bovine tuberculosis is a zoonotic disease that has a great impact on the economic sector and public health. It is caused by Mycobacterium bovis belonging to the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex, which is more common in cattle and rare in buffalo, goats and deer. Currently, mainly in developing countries, the magnitude of this disease in humans when caused by Mycobacterium bovis is not clearly known; since it is underreported due to the limitations that exist in diagnostic laboratories, which prevent the differentiation between Mycobacterium bovis and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This review aims to show the economic impact of bovine tuberculosis on livestock production and public health
