Resumen
The creole breed horses that inhabit the floodable savannah of the municipality of Arauca are characterized by their high resistance and adaptation to adverse environments, however, in states of immunosuppression they can be affected by PGI that are characteristic of this species. The general objective of this study was to determine the epidemiology of PGI in horses in the municipality of Arauca. A total of 46 horses were studied in seven farms in this locality in the department. To identify the PGI, stool samples were processed using the Mini-Flotac and Modified Telemann TMM techniques. Likewise, the prevalence and incidence of some species previously registered by other authors were determined. The highest prevalence was for Strongylus spp. (57%), followed by Blepharocorys spp. (5%), Cyathostoma spp. (12%), Cycloposthium spp. (6%), Triodontophorus spp. (9%), Parascaris spp. (4%) and Trichostrongylus spp. (8%). Cyathostoma spp. and Triodontophorus spp. Of the seven species recognized in this study, it was possible to obtain the absolute incidence of the following PGI for the municipality of Arauca, corresponding to 80% for Strongylus spp., 44.4% for Parascaris spp., 60% for Triodontophorus spp. and 25% for Cycloposthium spp. The above result indicates that Strongylus spp. It is an endemic species in the horses of this region of the country. Finally, in the department of Arauca there are no updated studies on the epidemiology of PGIs that affect creole horses, this study being the first to offer significant data to continue with research of this type, considering the high value and of the importance at work and cultural level of horses in this region of the country
