Resumen
This writing compiles information that allows evidence of the influence of the media on suicidal behavior. Based on the bibliographic review, the way in which the media communicates about suicide cases that influence other suicides is investigated. The World Health Organization (WHO) warns that suicide is a serious public health problem and a phenomenon that affects all parts of the world, indicating that each year approximately 800,000 people commit suicide WHO, (2019). Different investigations that address this relationship of influence of the media with new suicidal acts show that in most cases there is a scandalous coverage of suicide, thus generating an increase in suicidal behavior. However, it has also been added that a responsible coverage of the information can provide a preventive effect also called the Papageno effect. Garrido et al. (2018). It can be concluded that the influence of the media can be negative (Werther effect) or positive (Papageno effect), where in the first case the incidence of the problem of suicide would increase, and in the second there would be a decrease in suicidal behavior. by imitation.
