Resumen
This qualitative, phenomenological-hermeneutic research with a descriptive scope sought to identify and describe the effects on socio-emotional development as a product of the COVID 19 pandemic to show the influence on life, development and possible well-being in late adulthood, addressing emotional regulation and interpersonal relationships, two important socio-emotional components within the research and that had a great impact during the contingency. The data collection method was carried out through a sociodemographic record and a semi-structured interview addressed to 15 participants who underwent the research. According to the responses made by the research participants in the sociodemographic file, a response was given to specific objective one and with the transcripts made from the interviews, a matrix of categories was made to respond to specific objective two and three, as well with this procedure it was possible to answer the problem question and the general objective of the investigation. In this order of ideas, it was found that the ages of this study group range between 52 and 85 years. The female gender represented the majority of the participants, where thirteen people of the female gender and two people of the male gender are evident. Next, it was intended to respond to the second specific objective, taking into account the referential framework where the theoretical category called loss of vital aspects was obtained as a result, within which subcategories were evidenced; emotional control, social isolation and loss of autonomy. Likewise, in congruence with objective two and the analysis of the answers given by the older adults interviewed, the finding of the emerging categories was achieved, these being; adaptation mechanisms and cognitive effects, the latter presented two subcategories considered as physiological response and psychological response. In relation to the semi-structured interview applied to the participants, a close link was obtained between emerging aspects of the personal and individual experiences of the study population and the theoretical categories exposed by different authors who have come to analyze the stages of the life cycle. The research question was answered, mentioning the affectations in the socio-emotional development, which older adults possibly presented, which potentiated alterations at the emotional and social level, being the case of fluctuations in their mood, social isolation, loss of contact with their support networks, deaths of their close ones, emotional and economic dependence causing loss of autonomy. In this way, as referred by Ramírez et al., taking into account the findings obtained from the responses made by the participants and the responses given to the general and specific objectives of the research, socio-emotional affectations were evidenced in the elderly product of the pandemic.
