Resumen
In March 2020, a global pandemic was declared caused by the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) generated by the severe acute respiratory syndrome virus type-2 (SARS-CoV-2). World Health Organization (WHO), as of March 23, the Americas are the region with the second highest growth in numbers of identified cases and deaths from COVID 19 (OAS, s.f). Colombia was no exception. The lack of knowledge and precedents, together with the asymmetries in supply regarding medical and health infrastructure, add to the difficulties of the installed health system, making it difficult to respond to the disease, which is why it is really important to understand the behavior and / or evolution of the disease to act likewise. The objective of this study is to analyze the installed capacity of ICU beds in the department of Valle del Cauca to care for Covid cases during the peaks presented. In this work, the course of the disease is described and the guidelines and recommendations given by the WHO are taken into account, in addition to the actions carried out by the local government in order to respond to the challenge generated by the lethality of the disease due to the vulnerability of the population, high mortality rates and insufficient available resources.
