Resumen
Objective: To evaluate the length of the cranial base in cephalic lateral radiographs of children ages 8-12 years old compared with other baseline studies, and to evaluate the relationship between the length and the angle of the base of the skull's articular gonial angle , and the type of skeleton according to the nasion angle between point A and point B (ANB ) . Methods: cross-sectional study . We included 149 children between the ages of 8-12 years old, born in the Aburrá Valley , who had cephalic lateral radiographs done, and who agreed to participate in the study. The variables evaluated were age, sex, nasion chair , chair - nasion -articular nasion - basion chair , joint - gonion - chin , gonion - chin , SNA , SNB and ANB ; measured digitally with digital software i- Dixel 2 . Averages and mean differences were established using one-way ANOVA , and the values obtained were compared with previous studies . A significant p value < 0.05 was considered . Results : the lengths of the skull base are lower for each age group and sex , and these differences exceed 10 mm for each measure , compared with the study of Riolo in Michigan and Damascus in Antioquia . There is no relationship between skeletal type ( ANB ), with the length of the anterior cranial base angle of the chair, and the cranial base angle, the gonial angle with the seat angle, or the angle of the cranial base . Conclusion: the cranial base varies between populations and therefore the sample tested is shorter when compared to other studies.
