Introduction: Dental anxiety is a common phenomenon during the dental practice affecting binomial dentist-patient, intraoperative complications leading to its sympathetic reaction as hypertension, vasovagal syncope, stroke, tachycardia. This emotional disorder causes many patients to avoid the dental treatment. Objective: To assess the level of anxiety in young adult patients (aged 18 to 30 years) attending the clinic for dental extractions in the Cooperative University of Colombia School of Dentistry Envigado 2011. Materials and methods: We performed a cross-sectional descriptive study described the level of anxiety prior to an oral surgery procedure, with aconvenience sampling: in total 70 participants between 18 and 30 years old of both sexes who came during the second half year 2011 to the operating room of the university union of Colombia, Medellin. Results: We evaluated 70 patients who presented during the second half of 2011 the operating room of the Faculty of Dentistry of the Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, Medellín where the age ranged between18 and 30 where sex was most prevalent with 61 male %. 91% of participants were single. 65.7% of patients attending the theater of the Cooperative University of Colombia during the second half of 2011, had low levels of anxiety. Conclusions: When crossing the dependent variable anxiety, with the independent variables found no statistically significant difference. Patients who were treated in the operating room of the Cooperative University of Colombia in the second half of 2011 showed low levels of anxiety.
