Resumen
The present research aims to carry out a systematic documentary review of a narrative nature on the mental health problems of university students in Latin America. For this, a literature search was carried out through search services in different academic web databases in primary and secondary sources such as: Scopus, Springer, ProQuest, Scielo, Redalyc, Dialnet, among others. 160 articles were selected following the exclusion and inclusion criteria, a second selection was made choosing only the articles that met the objectives, leaving a total of 60 articles. The results showed that the mental health of university students is influenced by variables such as psychological determinants, with the main symptoms being anxiety, depression, stress and other mental disorders. Similarly, it was found that support networks during academic training are essential as a protective factor to reduce the emergence of disorders, problems and risk behaviors associated with mental health in young university students. Regarding the recommendations, it is suggested to the university institutions, the strengthening of personal resources focused on self-efficacy and the incorporation of the family from the beginning of the university cycle.
