The objective of this document is the literary review of scientific articles from different countries, taking into account relevant and updated information on the clinical presentation of leishmania sp in felines, its pathogenesis, diagnosis, control and prevention, with a focus on conventional pharmacological therapeutic plans with antimonials (Meglumine) associated with xanthine oxidase inhibitors (Allopurinol) compared to new alternatives with effectiveness data, such as the implementation of phospholipid-based drugs (Miltefosine), such knowledge is of importance since in recent months it has been reported the increase in cases in humans and animals in the epidemiological bulletin of Colombia, for which with this bibliographic compilation we seek to guide veterinarians and / or students for the analysis and considerations when facing a patient with dermatological and / or systemic manifestations that can be compatible with various diseases, recent positive cases are the reason why it sh çould be included as a differential diagnosis in the veterinary clinic. In turn, these literary supports open the possibility of avoiding euthanasia as a first measure of infected animals, always depending on the present risk to public health.
