Parental styles represent the orientation guide in the growth of the individual, they are also modelling that have been established to train people with values, principles and other factors that affect individual behavior and that are relevant to the hope of society in a better future. The objective of this research work was to establish the relationship between parenting styles and academic performance of primary school children from a private educational institution, being important to highlight the role of parents in a process of educational co-responsibility. The applied methodology was framed in the type of quantitative research with a correlational scope, since it defines relationships between two important variables such as parental styles and academic performance, thus favoring the application of a survey questionnaire, which provides results to the variables identified in the study: parenting practices and academic performance. The categories of analysis allowed us to conclude that there is a greater participation of mothers in the education of their children. It was identified that the parents of elementary school students tend to carry out parenting practices that promote authoritative style factors such as encouraging expression, communication and reflection in children. However, in some families or situations, the presence of characteristics of authoritarian styles such as critical demand and permissive styles such as the absence of limits and norms were observed; these factors, in turn, were negatively related to the final assessment of academic performance. and with the subjects corresponding to the area of language. In conclusion, it was identified that the parents of the elementary school students have a parental style with a greater predominance of the authoritative one, being the factors Incentive for expression-reflection and communication-expectations, the indicators of frequent practices related to encouraging children. to express their thoughts and emotions and in turn give feedback so that they are aware of them.
