Through a qualitative study, in which in-depth interviews were applied to a sample of eleven participants who identify themselves as MSM, we evidence that the news about the homosexual or bisexual orientation of a member of the family produces a subjective division in it. The emotional manifestation oscillates between sadness, disappointment, frustration and anger, this to the extent that the decision is considered questions parenting guidelines and speeches assumed to be legitimate. Once the subjective discomfort and the grief that assists them is overcome, the family members are faced with two possible paths of action: acceptance that results in support, protection and accompaniment, or symbolic or direct violence tied to stigma and rejection. The responses of the relatives organize the action of the subjects since they produce subjective positions. However, given that discourses and practices do not always coincide, both risk behaviors and self-care behaviors are subject to the meaning given to experience.
