Resumen
The aim of this study was to describe the perception of depression in medical students of the Universidad Cooperativa Villavicencio, therefore, it was carried out with a qualitative approach and symbolic interactionism design; based on the objectives and the theoretical foundation, a focus group was carried out for the collection of information, in which categories of analysis were established for the creation of the guiding questions according to Beck's model of depression. To obtain the results, a thematic analysis was performed, where it was found that medical students perceive that early negative experiences do influence depression as in other mood disorders; secondly, participants perceive as crisis or stress situations within their professional development the academic load, the lack of time and the perception of mistreatment by teachers and the poor teacher-student relationship; thirdly, participants do not perceive in themselves negative aspects that are related to depressive symptomatology, on the contrary, they highlight their qualities. This is not the same for the perception of the world and the future, since in general they only highlighted negative aspects, however, these aspects are not related to depressive symptomatology. Therefore, it is suggested to carry out future studies and interventions with medical students of the Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, Villavicencio, in order to achieve an improvement in the quality of life without neglecting their academic performance.
