Resumen
The purpose of this research project was to enhance the teaching and learning of English as a foreign language in an official educational institution in Bucaramanga. The study was taken with elementary school teachers, not specialists in the area of English. Through a teacher professional development strategy that started from the interests and needs of the participants, various methodologies and tools were provided to enhance the learning and teaching of English.The approach on which the project was developed is Social Critical, since its objective is to solve practical problems through self-reflection, the design of the intervention proposal started from the analysis of the three instruments used for the collection of information, the First, it consists of a survey, as a diagnostic phase, which focuses on the interests and needs of the institution's teachers regarding the teaching of English, with the support of an interview, after which a focus group was carried out, virtual modality , which allowed a proposal for teacher professional development to be carried out from 4 workshops with an intensity of 4 hours, each, in search of tools that meet the exposed needs and finally the effectiveness of the proposal was assessed from of its implementation.It is necessary to strengthen components of linguistic, pedagogical and didactic training; accompaniment and support in classrooms; restructuring of study plans in educational institutions; incorporation of new bibliographic resources, materials and teaching strategies.
