Resumen
Domestic violence is a social problem that has especially undermined the fundamental rights of Colombian women. In consideration of this, the Congress promulgated the Law 294 of 1996, "Law against Domestic Violence". Twenty-three (23) years have passed since and several modifications of this rule have been made, therefore, the present study analyzes the effectiveness of this law based on its teleological principle. A study of quantitative and descriptive approach was carried out, supported by documen- tary records of state entities. The results show the identification of the intention of the creation of Law 294 of 1996, the characteristics of reports of domestic violence against women based in the Prosecutor's Office and Family Commissariats of the city of Villavicencio, and the study of the effectiveness of such Law to reduce violence against women in the capital city of the department of Meta.
