Resumen
The prone decubitus technique has proven to be of great help in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), but despite its multiple benefits it still has low use by health professionals, mainly nurses, who He is in charge of carrying out the technique and the care before, during and after the turning maneuver, since many times they are unaware of its correct use, care and complications. Methodology: The current research study is oriented as a literature review. The present study tries to discover specific and clear information about nursing care to perform the prone decubitus technique in patients with acute respiratory syndrome, taking as a sample Descriptive scientific articles , research, topic review, intervention and thesis that meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria for selection. Results: A review and analysis of 40 scientific research articles associated with the subject of nursing care in the prone position technique in patients with acute respiratory syndrome was carried out. According to the analysis, 2020 was the year in which more studies were carried out on this technique with 37.5%, the discipline that most covers this subject of prone decubitus is nursing with 75%. On the other hand, among the main benefits of practicing this technique were optimizing the ratio (V / Q) and improving oxygenation by mobilizing secretions, also highlighting the appearance of pressure ulcers as one of the main complications. Conclusions: The prone decubitus technique was implemented since 1922, but was recognized at the hospital level until the covid 19 pandemic, the little knowledge about this maneuver was also evidenced, due to the fact that there is no standardized protocol, causing an increase in complications such as pressure ulcers in different parts of the body, accidental extubation during or after the maneuver, which is why nursing plays a relevant role in the execution of the maneuver both in the previous preparation phase rotation, implementation of the same and care of the patient while remaining in this position.
