Resumen
Toxoplasmosis is a disease of worldwide distribution, which has a great zoonotic importance since it affects all mammals, including birds, its transmission occurs from the oocysts of this protozoan, which are eliminated by felines infected with said pathology, through urine, feces (horizontal transmission) and even transplacental route (vertical transmission). These are of great importance in this disease since the infectious part of the biological cycle is fulfilled in these mammals, and in some cases the felines that are infected do not present symptoms (asymptomatic), but they continue to spread the disease. This article reviews the updated literature on the most important aspects of the disease in felines as well as the diagnosis and treatment; The most widely used methods to diagnose this disease are the serological ones where T.gondii humoral immunity can be observed, such as the ELISA, IFI, CHEMOLUMINESCENCE test, and the different therapeutic options established for its control, in the treatment for this disease. are based on certain antibiotics, the choice of which depends on the clinical signs or the stage of the disease, where it is concluded that the treatment of choice is clindamycin since it can shorten the elimination period of the oocysts in the case of the cats.
