This investigation gives a general definition of structuralism, its beginnings, its changes and the present, ending answering the question of structuralism focused on maritime transport in Colombia. Structuralism was born in Europe in the nineteenth century as a method for analyzing human behavior, how social relationships affect an organized system, it was support for several investigations of human behavior, in the cultural, psychological and linguistic way; The structuralism came to America in the late nineteenth century, some economists, psychologists, sociologists, they adopted teh as a theory to cpomplete there investigation; Raul Prebisch take it as the basis of his theory of the dependence of developing countries to developed countries. Prebisch was an economist who raised several hypotheses about the lack of industrialization in Latin America, he give the idea of better terms of trade and from his post in the CEPAL, He gaves the economy análisis looking for development and not dependence on foreign markets. He Develop an approach to the existence of two organizations where he could locate the countries according to their system, he called this thought_ center-periphery, where he ubicated in the first industrialized countries equally and developed in the second country he located totally unequal economy without machinery for end products, there was underemployment and underdevelopment. With the peripheral countries external contraint suffer from dependence on selling commodities to countries in the center; according to this and to analyze how structuralism influences currently shipping in Colombia, show and analysis of information delivery sector. This way of transportation as the main medium is important for the exchange goods and products entering and leaving the country, their problems, possible solutions and the important role of State for the improvements of other means of transport, Colombia has a comparative advantage in terms of its geographical location, diversity in ports, but the lack of technology, roads, and skilled to meet the needs of this service work. Shipping in Colombia continued with several flaws that although it has had a growth, this has been slow and there needs are overlooking a short-term, it means not moving at the same speed, that will not be solved until the government does not only invest in this sector (maritime) but as also in other sectors of the economy, since all are elements of the economic structure
