Resumen
Introduction: The physical and mental well-being of healthcare and administrative professionals in the health area is determined by factors such as empathy that goes hand in hand with altruism, resilience and some personality traits of each individual. . Professionals and students in the health area must have optimal levels of empathy, in order to understand the situations and feelings of others, developing an adequate professional-patient bond, which allows to provide quality services and thus improve the care processes of the patient. Username. Objective: To identify the levels of empathy in health professionals and students. Method: A review of original articles in English and Spanish was carried out, with quantitative methodologies from the last 8 years of publication directly related to the levels of empathy in health professionals and students, identifying the variables sex, age, level of education, profession of the health sector, empathy. Results: women are more empathic than men with a proportion between (101.9 and 126.7), compared to men who have a score between (97 and 115.4) taking as a reference the Jeffersonian stele for measuring empathy whose Values range from 20 to 140 with 20 being less empathetic and 140 being very empathetic. Regarding the health sector professions, it is observed that nursing and medicine have a higher empathy score (100 to 115 and 105 to 110 respectively) in relation to pharmacy and midwifery. Conclusions: Women tend to be more empathetic than men, due to the fact that at the brain level they have a greater number of mirror neurons developed throughout their childhood emphasizing the maternal role, in the same way their greater participation is a consequence of the great demand in the health professions such as nursing, psychology, nutrition, and midwifery.
