Resumen
One of the most common causes of low fertility in dairy cows of high production is the deficiency of energy in relation to the needs of the animal, or negative energy balance. The majority of cows and especially those of high production milk entering a phase of negative energy balance during the transition period (three weeks before and three weeks after delivery) this occurs because they can not eat adequate amounts of energy and for therefore they do not reach the requirements of milk production, so cows must mobilize their body reserves (fat) and lose weight. Therefore, one of the important factors for the success or failure of production and reproduction is the ability of the cow to control the intake and energy demand during the transition period. A good adaptation to the beginning of lactation and the resulting negative energy balance can ensure a healthy and productive lactation, while a bad adaptive response can lead to different problems including clinical disease and alteration of milk production and reproduction.
