Resumen
This paper aims to establish the impact of extractive institutions on the level of development of Latin American countries and analyze the asymmetry between these and the countries with inclusive institutions. The starting point is the low level of development of some countries in Latin America and their lag with respect to high income countries. To achieve the objectives, a rigorous bibliographic review was made in databases and libraries of the Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia and at the request of the World Bank and Transparency International. Among the main results, it was found that in Latin America the institutions have led to political instability and inefficient justice systems that slow down the economic and technological development. The work concludes that in Latin American countries the institutions were constituted through religious or political impositions that fostered exploitation, fraud and mistrust.
