Resumen
Spleen pathologies in small animals is a recurrent clinical event and requires the approach through imaging techniques due to its low clinical referencing. Objective: From the present study it was described the main splenic pathologies diagnosed in canines and felines by means of diagnostic images such as radiography and ultrasound. Methodology: A monographic review of literature was carried out taking as reference books, articles and reports of authors whose research was similar to the topic to be treated, with a publication date not longer than 8 years and that their language was in Spanish, English or Portuguese. Results: From the literature reviewed, we have that hemangiosarcoma is the main neoplasm that appears both in canines and felines, followed by splenic hematoma and lymphoid nodular hyperplasia, being the latter of benign origin. Conclusion: Splenic diseases are difficult to diagnose because their signs are usually not very specific and associated to other diseases. The joint use of radiography and ultrasound are of great support to provide a more specific diagnostic idea, however, to differentiate which pathology affects the spleen, the additional use of other tests such as laboratory tests, or histopathological tests is necessary. Finally, it is imperative to carry out more in-depth studies on pathologies in felines because there are not many of them and they do not usually present in the same proportion as in canines.
