Resumen
Background: In dentistry, an individual with special needs is considered any person who lacks a physical or mental condition; This deficiency may be due to an external cause such as an accident, a congenital anomaly or a disease (13) affecting human development (14). In dentistry, it is not done by a disabling person but rather requires other conditioning, if possible their attention (31) as the application of behavioral techniques, physical restraint, therapeutic and pharmacological use. McDermott emphasizes the need to care for these patients due to the prevalence that they entail in terms of oral health problems such as the increase in gingival recessions, cavities, bacterial plaque, periodontal diseases, among others (4) (7). A convenience sample was carried out with 60 dental students who were enrolled in VIII and IX in the second academic period of 2010 and 2020 in the dentistry program of the Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, Villavicencio headquarters.
