Resumen
Peer tutoring is an academic strategy designed to help students who have low English proficiency, the tutors being their peers. The project entitled "virtual peer tutoring" was carried out with a group of first semester students of the degree in Spanish and English, in order to apply a pedagogical proposal that strengthens the learning of English in the students who studied the subject “Elementary English”. For this, the level of proficiency in English that the students possess was identified through a placement test, in the same way, the needs of the students of said subject to improve their level of English were determined, for which it was elaborated a pedagogical proposal that strengthens the English learning of students who present a low level of competence based on peer tutoring. In addition to that, a series of virtual tutorials (using microsft teams) provided to students were carried out, in groups of 2 people, each tutor was in charge of 2 students (6 in total), each of the tutors had a moment of preparation which was directed by the student researchers and the teacher in charge of the research subject. The results indicated that the vast majority of the tutors made very good progress since, according to the mentors mentioned to the tutors, their grades had improved considerably because the fact that their own classmates had been their tutors made them feel confident and much more comfortable during the sessions.
