Resumen
This document aims to address the factors that influence an individual to attempt or commit a suicidal act, given that, various investigations carried out by the Ministry of Health, the International Classification of Diseases - ICD 10 -, the World Health Organization (WHO , 1993), the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-5) and the American Psychiatric Association (APA), estimate that each year more than 800,000 people commit suicide worldwide and the main risk factor for this event is an attempt of unsuccessful suicide; being among the top three causes of death worldwide, in people from 15 to 44 years old. Therefore, this self-injurious behavior has become a public health problem; where the individual causes himself an injury or death is intentionally caused by individual, social, family or biological causes that affect himself and the family at a cognitive, behavioral and emotional level. Reason for which, in this literature, approximations are made about the possible predisposing and precipitating factors that increase the risk of consummation of the suicidal act and also the alarm signs and the different clinical forms in which they manifest are disclosed; being mental illnesses one of the most important factors predisposing to suicidal behavior.
