Equines destined to any zootechnical purpose present multiple oral alterations that cause disease in both the oral and general cavity of the animal, because the mouth is the entrance to the organism and the behavior, feeding, body condition and This study consisted in estimating the prevalence of alterations in the oral cavity of working horses and competition in the municipality of Arauca, belonging to four estates that were the property Trequina located in the village Mata de gallina, La finca Casita in Clarinetero village, farm of the Eighteenth Brigade Urban helmet and in the square of municipal fairs; The study was carried out on a total of 30 horses between the ages of 2 and 18 years, determined by chronometry examination and record information. The ages were divided into four groups: young (less than 5 years old), young adult Or less than 10 years), elderly (15 years or less) and geriatric (20 years or less); Different body condition (CC) in scale 1 to 9, were distributed by sex in 24 males and 6 females; The evaluation was performed using previous medication (sedation with 100% xylazine at a dose of 1.1 mg / kg IV); Once the patient was reassured and restricted with suitable tools (open mouths), gloves, masks and flashlight. The results obtained show a general distribution of alterations in the oral cavity where the highest prevalence is of teeth edges with 36.6% (11/30), followed by malocclusion with 26.6% (8/30), lingual lesion 20% (6/30), with respect to working horses, the most prevalent pathology is tooth ridges (8 specimens), followed by 3 with dental caries, lingual lesion and malocclusion respectively; In the case of competition equines, the prevalence of malocclusion is highest with (4), followed by edges with (3) each. It can be concluded that the assessment carried out regularly to equine competition is a factor in favor of presenting fewer cases of oral alterations as opposed to working horses.
