Resumen
The reproductive evaluation of males destined for replacement within a herd or to be the breeding foot of a new farm is one of the main factors that limit bovine production at the national level because the use of breeders with few or low reproductive skills produces cracks. in the production chain. In Colombia, it has become important to carry out fertility tests on bulls because the strengths and weaknesses of the animal with respect to its reproductive activity can be known. This test is carried out taking into account the phenotypic characteristics, which will be transmitted by the reproducer. This is why the Maracaibo cattle ranch seeks to implement reproductive biotechnologies in their herds for the constant improvement of their animals and implementing more specific techniques for the classification of the reproductive quality of the reproductive animals obtained on the farm and that is why they seek to carry out periodic evaluations of the reproductive quality of the males obtained on the farm. The study unit consisted of 50 males from the Maracaibo livestock, who underwent an evaluation of reproductive fitness that consisted of various measurements such as weight, body condition, scrotal circumference, ejaculate volume, pH, mass and individual motility of semen, etc. These results were tabulated and analyzed to determine the average quality of the animals produced by livestock and generate the creation of an informative manual on the evaluation method. According to what was found in the performance of this practice, it was observed that the evaluated males have an average of 33.6 months, with a weight of 482.8 kg, body condition of 4, scrotal circumference of 35.2 cm, volume of 11.5 ml ejaculate, semen pH 6.0, sperm survival rate 77.3%, individual motility 3.4 (1/5), mass motility 4.5 (1/5), abnormalities primary 12.2%, total abnormalities 21.9%. In conclusion, it was observed that the males produced by the Maracaibo cattle have excellent genetics according to the physical and seminal evaluations carried out, with scrotal circumference within the accepted range, thus generating factors to guarantee the heritability of the desired factors for the cattle.
