Resumen
The need for alternative building materials and the call for a cleaner environment has led to the reuse of materials, especially non-biodegradable ones, such as glass and plastic. The disposal of this non-biodegradable material has been a major challenge. In this work, mixtures of plastic, fine aggregate and waste glass were prepared in individual and combined mixtures. From the prepared mixtures, prismatic specimens of 0.124×0.07×0.100 were produced which were melted in a convection oven up to 240 °C for 3 hours and then cooled by natural convection. The density and compressive strength of the prepared specimens were evaluated. The experimental results showed an increase in density with the plastic and aggregate content, being slightly higher in the samples with higher aggregate content. An increase in compressive strength was also observed, being higher for the sample containing plastic and aggregate, which showed an improvement of 243% over the reference material (prepared from plastic only). A decrease in carbon dioxide emissions was also found. Given the potential of the prepared mixtures, it is expected that the results found will enable the generation of a management route for plastic and glass waste.
