Introduction: the lack of knowledge about Sexually Transmitted infections is a factor that leads young people to have risky sexual behaviors and this increases the chances of contracting an STI. Objective: The objective of this work is to determine the knowledge that university students have about sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The methodology: used in the study is of a descriptive type with a cross-sectional design.The target population was the students of the Santa Marta sectional cooperative university of Colombia, in which 116 students belonging to the first semester of the law school were taken as a sample. and psychology. Results: the highest percentage of students in the first semesters of psychology and law belong to the age range between 16 and 19 years, it was found through this research that law students have clearer knowledge about sexually transmitted infections. It was collected by applying an anonymous survey in which sociodemographic data, risky sexual behaviors and practices, and the level of knowledge that students have about sexually transmitted infections were collected. Conclusion: it was possible to determine that the level of knowledge of the students is classified at a regular level and many of them engage in risky sexual practices which makes them more susceptible to acquiring an STI
