Resumen
Defining an individual’s sexual orientation is much more complex than one might think. It is not a question of choosing and already, but on the contrary this choice is part of a whole construction of identity in which the subject must go through processes of acceptance and confrontation when he finds himself in a context where the difference is not well accepted. This article presents the main findings found after a review of articles and scientific studies that address acceptance and coping as fundamental elements during the process of sexual orientation. The main objective is to describe how these elements develop and the influence that different contexts exert on members of LGBTI communities. For this, we used bibliography stored in databases such as Dialnet, Proquest, Redalyc, Oxford, Sage jorunals, Scienciedirect, Springer, Scopus; using key words such as acceptance, coping, LGBTI community, identity and its similar in English, coping, LGBTI community, identity. The main findings show that contexts such as the family, academic, work and social contexts significantly influence the recognition of individuals' sexual orientation; to the point of distorting acceptance and coping with sexual inclinations other than the pre-established ones.
