Currently the department of Tolima is receiving important resources from the nation and other dependencies, specifically intended for sectors such as agriculture, education, transportation, health and housing, as evidenced by the National Planning Department (DNP). Based on the above and given that Colombia is a developing country, it is necessary to invest in road infrastructure in each of the departments of the national territory, particularly in the department of Tolima, generating better mobility and competitiveness in the region. Of the 1720 km of the secondary network and 9768.1 km of the tertiary network of roads that the department of Tolima has, the vast majority (more than 70%) are unpaved and in fair condition. For this reason, this project focuses on the construction of a pavement structure, with an erosion and damage resistant tread layer to which it is normally exposed, in such a way that guarantees the safety and comfort of those who use the road sector. Thus things and according to the needs of the municipality of Piedras - Tolima, to extract agricultural production from the sector and provide greater ease of movement in the transport sector, it is planned to carry out an investment in road structure, between the municipality of Piedras and the township of Buenos Aires, promoting dynamism in the sector's economy. To finish, the studies to be carried out and the projected design for the elaboration of the design of the pavement structure by means of rational methods and AASHTO 93 for the Doima – Buenos Aires road k0+000 to k2+000, in the municipality of Piedras, located in the department of Tolima.
