Resumen
Sleep is a fundamental biological function for life, and the use of social networks can modify this function, therefore, this project aims to relate the quality of sleep with the number of nighttime hours dedicated to social networks in students of the faculty of dentistry, from the Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia , Bogotá headquarters, during the year 2020. Through a descriptive correlational study with students from V to X semester with voluntary participation, the Pittsburg questionnaire validated by F. Escobar-Córdoba in Colombia. Materials and methods: Type of descriptive correlational study. Variables such as sleep quality and night use of social networks were related. Forty-nine dental students from Bogotá were evaluated to whom the Pittsburgh sleep quality index was applied in conjunction with a questionnaire to assess the use of social networks. Results: 49 subjects participated, of which 42 (85.7%) were women, the majority were from semesters VII and IX, (71%), The night use of social networks occurs from 1 to 2 hours, the cheapest networks child: WhatsApp and Instagram and No relevant variable of sleep quality is associated with the time of night use or with the number of networks (p> 0.05). Conclusions: Consequently, you can hypothesize that there must be other factors that influence the quality of sleep, other than problems when using social networks, such as stress and anxiety.
