Due to the need to improve the roads where people and animals originally traveled, the pavements were born, which have evolved from the adaptation of the natural soil by compaction and consolidation to its current conditions. The pavements have a clear social function, although for the common people, they go unnoticed, perhaps because it is built directly on the ground and does not have the attractiveness and spectacularity of the vertical structures, or simply because traveling from one place to another is something so routine that they have lost consciousness of the existence of roads and pavements. . The diagnosis and subsequent design of the tertiary road located in Municipality of Piedras - Tolima is a project that favors the improvement and optimization of the road network of the country, projecting a new variant in order to guarantee short term in the displacement, generating a considerable growth in the productive activities, of commercial exchange, giving way to the last phase of the project and concluding with it, this road infrastructure investment offers diverse solutions, diminishing distance and time, providing an alternative for the vehicles that travel from the center to the North of the country, Improve the level of serviceability, reduce vehicular operation costs and expedite the evacuation of production. The present study has been developed following the different methodologies and knowledge acquired in the course of this program, Specialization in Design and Construction of Floors. Therefore, the preparation of the design of the flexible pavement structure through the empirical and Rational methodology, in the third order road Buenos Aires - Doima in the abscissa K14 + 000 AL K16 + 000, is proposed. Analyzing the results of laboratories, characterization and soil properties, study for medium and high volumes of traffic, adjusting the characteristics of the region. Its collection of information provides elements that produce consistent results and minimize errors.
