Through research "Analysis of competitive profile of the major sectors defined in the regional competitiveness plan for the department of Arauca," is to determine whether exactly these five sectors may prove to be regarded as productive chains, specifically in this article are reflected the results obtained in relation to the tourism sector. To meet the target established a total of 18 interviews applied to different stakeholders in the tourism sector belonging to both public and private institutions were performed. Later, with the analysis of the information obtained was able to determine that the tourism sector if it can be considered a production chain because undoubtedly possesses certain characteristics or conditions that allow it to be considered one of the sectors that can benefit lot departmental economy, however it should be mentioned that this sector also has disadvantages in different areas related to a greater degree with the competition and some technological aspects.
