In the current context, the need to be at the forefront of an increasingly demanding and globalized world makes economic activity in countries increasingly competitive in order to meet market requirements. The different economic sectors in this case, that of commerce, have established the need for the use of innovation and technology as indispensable sources in their development and growth. In this way, the following work aims to analyze innovation and technology as strategies in companies in the commercial sector of the Santa Marta district, based on the position of various authors such as Drucker (2008), Bunge (2002) Kerlinger and Lee (2002); likewise, Flores (2008), among others that with their great contributions allowed to reach the objective set that motivated the investigation. To carry out this work, it was used in a type of documentary research, with non-experimental and transactional or transversal design. Bibliographic records were used as support tools to gather the information, resulting in the companies of the commercial sector in the district of Santa Marta, being an important source of income in the economic activity of the department and that this is done by promoting innovation and technology as strategies for the growth of this sector however it is necessary that other companies that are not at the forefront of these concepts seen as strategies, become more involved with their implementation in their commercial sector, so that a Positive projection of growth and development in a country where a large part of employment comes from this part. It is recommended to establish practical and didactic methods that allow entrepreneurs in the commercial sector of the Santa Marta district to appropriate information and develop productive knowledge based on the implementation of innovation and technology as strategies, in order to reflect a significant advance of this sector.
