Resumen
Chronic noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) associated with physical inactivity are one of the main public health problems. Latin America with 39% is the region of the world with the highest percentage of population with insufficient physical activity to stay healthy. Objective: To determine the level of physical activity as a cardiovascular risk factor. Material and methods: Descriptive, correlational cross-sectional study. The sample corresponds to a total of 314 individuals between the ages of 18 and 80 in the “La Bolivariana” neighborhood of Santa Marta. Descriptive statistics were applied to the results and associations were established through the Chi-square statistical test having a 5% level of significance. Results: 68% (n = 214) of the respondents are women and 32% (n = 100), men, 74% (n = 233) of the sample was between 30 and 69 years of age. The weight was significantly associated (p <0.05) to all physical activity variables evaluated in the study. Arterial hypertension showed a statistically significant association (p <0.05) with the variable age and occupation; as well as with the variables of frequency of intense physical activity and displacement. Blood pressure was associated (p <0.05) with the variables age and occupation, as well as with the frequency variable for sitting or lying down. Conclusions: The observed frequency of moderate and intense physical activity is insufficient to become a protective factor. The lack of healthy life work policies make it difficult to carry out moderate and intense physical activities during working hours.
