This work is the result of the research "Factors involved in reading comprehension in fourth grade children of the IED Porvenir School in search of strengthening reading processes", whose general objective is to identify the factors that cause difficulty in the Reading comprehension in fourth-grade children of IED El Porvenir headquarters, in order to design a pedagogical proposal to strengthen this process. For the development of this, a methodology was used from a qualitative paradigm with a hermeneutical approach and an ethnographic investigation which allowed an approach to the study subjects, which were selected under criteria of inclusion and exclusion. Through the techniques of data collection observation, survey and interview, the information was collected through self-developed instruments whose main results evidenced the low academic performance, wrong evaluation form, few resources and low socioeconomic status of children, low self-esteem, lack of reading habits, bad teaching practices and lack of culture towards reading, from what could be concluded, that the difficulty in children does not start from them but from the surrounding contexts.
