This research work aims to diagnose the role played by travel agencies in the tourism sector in the city of Ibagué - Colombia, identifying variables such as: percentage of employability in the Colombian economy, the academic level of its collaborators, guilds, main sources of information used for the creation or innovation of products and services, identification of current quality certificates with which the company has, year of incorporation, use of installed capacity both in low season and high season, main customers, sources of funding and determination of the supply of services according to seasons. The present research will be developed with a mixed approach methodology, having qualitative elements; description of the companies of the tourist sector, and quantitative elements that allow the analysis of results, to determine the characterization of the sector. In Ibagué there are 95 travel agencies, determining a sample of 77 companies. The results show that: 52.63% of all surveyed travel agencies have their year of incorporation between 2000 and 2004; 56.58% of companies import the services provided, as they are agencies with international services, 28.95% export their services and 14.47% do not handle either of these two modalities.
