Resumen
The Combeima River and the Cay Creek are the main contributors to the aqueduct of the city of Ibague. This is how the uncertainty about the behavior of the water supply of the Combeima River and the ravine fell during periods of low water makes it difficult to plan the growth of the city. In view of the constant population and economic growth of the city in recent decades, it is necessary to know if the sources of water supply have enough supply to cover the future demand of this resource. For this and in view of the presence of the El Niño phenomenon, the present investigation is carried out taking as evidence the behavior of the Combeima River and the Cay Creek, in the sections near the intake. To fulfill this task, the river was divided into five sections that met the minimum conditions in which gauging was performed using the float method, for a period of three months, three times a week during the permanence of the El Niño phenomenon. Year 2016 which constituted the second most extreme event of this climatic anomaly at universal level that in Colombia is manifested with absence of rainfall in the Andean region and high rainfall in the Pacific region. The aim is to determine the water supply of the aforementioned tributaries in relation to the population demand, to know if it is necessary to look for other sources of catchment or to take drastic measures of rationing of the water resource, both to the users and to the concession irrigation districts.
