Criminology is defined by Hikal, (2011) “as the set of concepts, theories, results and methods that refer to criminality as an individual and social phenomenon to the offender, the victim, society and partly to the criminal system” , while the criminal policy is oriented to the prevention of criminal phenomena and socially inappropriate behaviors, through social, psychological and cultural measures, and their impact on society (Muñoz-Tejada, 2011). Starting from the previous definition for the construction of this critical reading, theories related to criminology, criminal policy and its application in Colombia were used. With what is attempted to respond to How is criminology and criminal policy established in the country regarding science or evidence ?, and if these are consistent with the needs that exist in Colombian society. Various points of view are reviewed to know the current state of criminology and criminal policy in Colombia, finding that there is no clear and consensual criminal policy for the territory that allows effective intervention in the appearance of criminal phenomena, which also contribute with the process of resocialization of criminals or criminals.
